To guarantee a private arena for your group you must purchase:

  • 6 people minimum for your group Sunday to Thursday
  • 8 people minimum on Fridays and Saturdays
  • If your group is below those minimums, you may share a bay with other guests. A rare opportunity to meet new people in MN and great for games!
  • If your group is larger than 12 you can book an additional arena, but you must also book for a minimum of 6 players (or 8 on Fridays and Saturdays) for that second alley to be private, and so on, ad infinitum (until our 10 lanes are full).
  • For groups larger than 24 contact our special events

Stripped to its essentials, an axe throwing session is:

  • 55 minutes, 85 minutes or 115 minutes (we need 5 minutes between sessions to prep the arena for the next group so we maximize the experience)
  • Presided over by an axe coach/master
  • The first few minutes dedicated to explaining the rules and throwing techniques
  • A good hour or so of deeply satisfying sinking of steel into wood

EVERYONE!  Everyone can get the hang of throwing quickly. We have coaches ranging from world-class athletes to the self-admitted clumsy.  Almost all throwers, including our owners, started off slow and spent a lot of time picking their axes up from the floor before learning how to dial in consistently.   Some of us at the Dragon’s Lair were accomplished in various sports, but others … others were definitely the last ones to be picked for group sports. Yet all of us have a great time throwing. That’s why we’re here, why we built our venue. What makes this special compared to other activities (bowling, pickleball, darts, cornhole, etc…) is that you will always have an expert with you, and you’ll watch your game improve dramatically from your first attempts.

You will be surprised how easy, safe, and fun it is. It’s not about strength, it’s all about finesse. Axes are just very “sexy” darts!  The powerful have no advantage over the sinewy, willowy, or graceful. Quite the opposite.

We guarantee you will be able to throw.  That’s right.  We do!

Slow down and take a deep breath. We are not completely batty! There is absolutely no throwing if you’re drunk, hammered or wasted. Our Axe Coaches are the final word on who can play. They will also teach you to throw, give you tips on technique, form, and style, while also imparting knowledge of axe-throwing culture.

They will stay with you throughout your session to teach you everything you need to know and get you and your friends engaged in our exciting variety of games.

Yes, unless we’re full-up with reserved groups. If you’re in a group smaller than six, you may share an arena (the two lanes) with other throwers – which is great for spirited competition. If it’s busy your group might have to be split, but we’ll always attempt to get you into adjoining lanes.

Heads up: during busy hours walk-in throwing sessions start at the same specific times as booked sessions. Check our start times schedule here or seriously, commit already, book it!

The cost per person for a 55-minute axe throwing reservation is $25.00+tax.  You pay a $0 reservation fee online to book.  If you are a habitual canceller, we will need to require walk-in for the future, so please keep your reservations or cancel 24 hours in advance as a courtesy.

  • 85 minutes – $36.50
  • 115 minutes – $45.00

Also check out our social media for Happy Hour specials on axe throwing, food, and drinks!

Yes, but the easiest way to do this is to have one person make the reservation on their credit card, and then you can make arrangements to square up the billing at the term of your session.

We hate to say it, but if your group arrive more than 10 minutes late, you’ve lost your guaranteed slot, but might be able to throw if no walk-ins commit to the lane in your absence. If you are late as an individual within a party, we will have to address the tardiness with you and your group to see how we can best handle the situation.

We understand that things can happen, but… we can’t hold you’re group hostage, and we can’t let you throw without our safety and technique lesson.  Think of your axe session like a plane taking off from LAX. It can’t wait for you. ARRIVE 15 MINUTES EARLY!  Of course, there’s an exception. We’re not monsters; If you arrive late for a private alley reservation and everyone in your group is fine waiting for you and shortening their axe throwing time, then it’s ok.

We would share in your disappointment in not being able to particiatate, so please be on time.

You’re hungry or thirsty we will be honored to cater to your dining needs.  Come on in! Non-throwers can enjoy our bar, dining, pull-tabs, and arcade.

As always, our bar features kick axe crafted cocktails, local brews, wine, and mead.

YES! We allow kids ages 12 and up to throw as long as the axe coach assesses that they have the strength and coordination to properly handle an axe, and adult(s) supervising them with us.

For children, there must be one adult per 3 kids and for kids 12 to 15 (one adult per alley). Kids can learn to safely and expertly throw axes. Of course, we require adult supervision along with training from our great Axe Coaches.

This sport is for everyone. And for that matter throwing an axe from a chair is considered a cool trick shot so you’ll have instant street cred when you stick it!

BYO is not allowed; Why would you want to when we have a delicious menu and an awesome bar! That said, if you’re booking a special event, or you will be devastated if you can’t bring in your favorite cake, reach out to our special events staff and they’ll work out a custom experience with you that could include your own catering.

We have a strict dress code; Plaid and closed toed shoes…..we are lying about the plaid.  NO OPEN TOED SHOES.  Range of motion is very important too, so please wear clothing that allows you to raise your arms over your head. Other than that, we look forward to your fashion choices.

Birthdays, Corporate Events, Date Nights, Team Building, Bachelor(ette) Parties, Weddings, Divorces, etc…?  You name it and we can host it. We have a dedicated special events staff with extensive experience in throwing (ha!) all kinds of events small to large. We can put together a fully customized experience for you or help you craft your own event. Reach out to our special events department here.

Your axe coaches will give you all they’ve got no matter what, but who doesn’t want a tip? Especially in this hustle of a city where everyone is trying to make it until their big break. They would love to feel your love! If you don’t have cash, they accept credit cards and digital pay apps.
